The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology and Radiology was one of the five departments established at the inception of the School of Dentistry in the year in 2007, and received its first students in January 2008. At inception, the department had only 4 members of staff and was involved in the teaching of two courses namely Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine.

Since its inception, the department has made great strides and now has 7 teaching and 2 non-teaching members of staff. The courses currently offered at the department are undergraduate courses for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree program and these include;

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral Medicine and Therapeutics
Oral Pathology
Oral Radiology
Forensic Dentistry

We also offer oral health courses to medical (MBChB) and nursing (BScN) students within the College of Health Sciences at Moi University. Currently, two masters programs are being developed and are set to be launched soon.

Alongside clinical teaching, the department offers outpatient clinical services at the school in collaboration with the Department of Dental Clinical Services. We also offer dental radiography services within the school. Laboratory diagnosis and inpatient clinical services are provided by our staff within the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

Message from CoD

Welcome to the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology and Radiology. This is an academic department that teaches five courses that form part of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree program at the School of Dentistry, Moi University. We also teach Oral Health courses to medical and nursing student at the college of Health sciences of Moi University. Alongside teaching, the department also offers outpatient clinical services at the school of dentistry dental clinic in collaboration with the department of Dental Clinical Services. Inpatient and emergency call services are by our staff within the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. The department is also involved in research and outreach activities in line with the vision and mission of Moi University. We welcome any form of collaboration especially in teaching, research and outreach activities.
