School of Dentistry marks the World Oral Health Day

 Details:

  • Date 23rd March, 2023

World Oral Health Day (WOHD) is celebrated worldwide yearly on March 20th. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Be proud of your mouth”. As is our tradition at Moi university Dental School we marked the day through a two-day Dental outreach camp at our Dental school. The planning and execution of the event required detailed planning by the Dental students association of Moi University (DESAMU) led by Hawkins Atozo, The other Desamu members are Luke Ger, Nickson Kirimi, Lawrence Ronoh, Peter Muchina, Joyce Wangui, and Mercy Jerono.

We appreciate the ladies that showed their relentless effort and dedication to making the event a success: Pamela Cheyech(MTRH), Dr. Mercy Makhanu, and the team lead and head of the outreach committee Dr. Lillian Apadet.

We appreciate all the Dental school staff and faculty, MTRH staff, and Aquadent led by the Uasin Gishu Chief officer Dr. Wangwe Ongeti. Dr. Wangwe changed his suit and whitened up to do a few extractions. The Dental students outdid themselves through selfless service to the members of the public over the two days and the number of patients seen speaks volumes of the kind of commitment and dedication that went into making the event a success. Our Masters in Dental surgery (MDS) registrars managed the many children that came in for treatment.

We had a March through Eldoret town by the junior students to publicize the day while the year two students kept the patient crowd engaged through Oral health talks.

We appreciate specific members of staff that went over and above the call of duty doing 10hr shifts at the event, to name but a few Dr. Welime, Dr. Brenda, Nurse Frida Kiptoo, Nurse Eunice(MTRH), Nurse Lucy simotwo, Jeremiah(CSSD), Koech (CSSD), Dr. Weboko, Dr. Lionel Koech, Purity (Aquadent), Dr. Maraga, Dr. Okemwa, Dr. Dennis Cheruiyot, Nurse Lorna (MTRH), Dr. Rop, Maiyo (xray) and Harriet.

Our Principal CHS Prof Tenge came through to give the teams moral support accompanied by our school Dean Dr. Lukandu.

We appreciate the support from our partners
